Michael Willöfer was born in 1977 in former East-Berlin, Germany. He studied Law and Criminology at Fachhochschule für Verwaltung und Recht Berlin and later he studied Architecture at Technische Universität Berlin and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. He has lived about 10 years in Mexico City, where afterwards he studied a Master Degree in Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.
Participant of the prestigious Seminar for Contemporary Photography at Centro de la Imagen Mexico. Recipient of a grant from the Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores Mexico, 2015.
His works in the field of artistic photography have a documentary approach and are conceptually oriented. Among other projects, he has been working on a long-term project called NARVARTE which deals with traces of violence, poverty and crime in the Mexican provinces since 2015.
He has participated in various solo and group exhibitions in Germany, The Netherlands, Mexico.
He currently lives in Berlin.
